I mean that as a question... not an answer. I'm not sure what makes some photos immediately catch our eye, while others just don't. I don't follow the rule of thirds, mostly because I don't understand it. I try to use it, but it seldom ends up as a compelling piece. I think balance is more important. The subtle counterpoints of symmetry and mass. Science or art. A little of each? Whatever, it is a never ending search for the best photo of whatever is in front of the lens at any moment. Why does the photo here feel good?
