Security and photography

I took this photo while standing on a very public street in a very busy city, while two security guards were shouting at me to stop. While holding a camera to my face, focusing and snapping away, one guard asked what I was doing. I was very polite and explained I was shooting the reflection off their building, and that I understood the need for security. Being in the real estate business, understanding building security and appreciating the role of photography in our lives, there must be a better idea than thinking that a building that is publicly visible is more secure if no one is allowed to take a picture. Forget the fact that almost every cell phone is a camera and no one can tell if someone is photographing while holding the phone. Think this through. The biggest target in the world is the replacement for the twin towers, One World Trade Center. This is probably the most photographed building in the US. It is also one of the most secure public buildings in the world.
